Air is a light PHP framework, built from ground up with modularity in mind. The engine contains only what is necessary for the framework's basic functions and everything else is implemented as separate libraries. Each library can plug into the engine core or into another library. The model, view and controller for example are designed as libraries that plug into the application object.
